How it works
Everything converts through decimal odds, which are the total return per $1 staked. American odds of +150 are 1 + 150/100 = 2.50; -110 is 1 + 100/110 = 1.909. Implied probability is 1 divided by the decimal odds, so 2.50 is 40%.
Questions
What does -110 mean?
Negative American odds are how much you bet to win $100. At -110 you risk $110 to win $100, which is decimal 1.909 and an implied probability of 52.4%.
What does +150 mean?
Positive American odds are how much you win on a $100 bet. At +150 a $100 bet wins $150, which is decimal 2.50, fractional 3/2 and an implied probability of 40%.
What is implied probability?
The win chance the price implies, before the book's margin is removed. It's 1 divided by the decimal odds. Both sides of a line add up to more than 100%; the extra is the vig. Use the no-vig calculator to get the fair chance.
Which format should I use?
Whatever your book shows. US books use American odds, most of the rest of the world uses decimal, and UK horse racing uses fractional. They all describe the same price.
